Blackberry email access with no data plan?

I'm looking to get a Blackberry Curve through AT&T but do not want to spend $35/mo additional for the data plan. Can I still access my YahooMail, Gmail, or check random things such as weather, etc. with no data plan? I am very confused as to what no data plan restricts you from doing. Thanks.

You will not be able to get access to BlackBerry push e-mail or BlackBerry browser (Internet) access without the BlackBerry data plan. You need to have the data plan in order to use those services.

Now you may be able to add their generic PDA data plan (not sure how much that is) and then use the Opera Mini third-party browser for Internet access (as well as visiting the Gmail and Yahoo! web sites).
