Blackberry for ATT question PLZ ANSWER?

I am not under contract anymore with att, and I do not want to renew it.

Currently, my phone has unlimited texting, but no internet usage. If I buy a new blackberry, will it be required of me to add on the blackberry service, or can I just use my phone like normal?

Im confused because the blackberry is a smartphone, and it has its own company you have to work with...

Isnt there 3 party extensions I can get for it too to get around paying extra?

you can use the phone like normal but a lot of times there is a requirement for the rebate that you add the blackberry plan you can get the phone with no rebate and not add it. but you will pay a lot more for your phone.
