Blackberry pearl 8100 help?

my blackberry pearl 8100 wont let me send any texts it gives me the x and it says unassigned number please help thank you

The x means you don't have a signal to send it or the number you sent it to is not a valid number and since its saying unassigned number that could either mean you didn't type in a number to send it to or the contact you sent it to doesn't have a number assigned to it or its not a working number

Do you have the person's name in your address book? If you don't, then add him/her. Is that person's phone number a cellphone or a home phone? You could only send texts on cellphones.
