Blackberry pearl 8100 plan?

so, i'm with t-mobile and i flushed my phone down the toilet, so i ordered a new phone, a blackberry pearl 8100. long story. but... i'm hearing that blackberry has its own network that you have to pay for on top of the regular stuff? anyways, i'm new to blackberry. help me out!

While you can use the Pearl 8100 without the BlackBerry data plan on T-Mobile, there are certain things that won't work. You won't be able to use the Internet (without some sort of data plan; T-Mobile also offers a generic $6/month data plan that can be configured to work), get e-mail, or use the BlackBerry Messenger. So really you can only make calls and send texts. You can send picture messages if you contact T-Mobile and ask them to add the BlackBerry Feature Enabler on your account. It allows you to send picture messages without having a BlackBerry data plan, which is typically required to send picture messages on a BlackBerry.
