Use the blackbody radiation law to estimate the wavelength of maximum intensity for the light from the Sun's photosphere.

  1. The solar photosphere averages 5800 K

    Therefore per Wein's displacement law

    the max intensity wavelength = 2898/5800 microns

    = 0.500 microns

    or 5000 angstroms
