Blackburn Rovers' David Dunn and Phil Jones urge players to improve their game to avoid relegation
Blackburn Rovers duo David Dunn and Phil Jones have urged their team-mates to pick up their game in order to avoid being relegated to the Npower Championship at the end of the season.
Blackburn are currently in 15th place in the Barclays Premier League table, just one point off the relegation places. With only four matches left to play, the Rovers still have to face Bolton Wanderers, West Ham United, Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Dunn believes only two victories from these four matches will confirm his team's English Premier League status in the 2011-12 season. Dunn has witnessed the relegation battle in the past too and knows what it takes to get out of it. The midfielder has urged his teams-mates to gear up for an intense finish to the season and help http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 avoid the drop.
Talking to the reporters Dunn said, "Quite a few of us have been in this before and we know what it takes. I've been down here before and it's a real fight."
The veteran added, "There are going to be a lot of pressures and we need a lot of bottle out there on the pitch - not just running around fighting and kicking people, but when we get the ball we need to move around and show a lot of bottle when we have got it.”
The former Birmingham City midfielder added that the players must understand the situation and take responsibility in order to get some points under their belts.
On the other hand, Dunn’s team-mate http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Jones-c29903 has also insisted that it is only the players who can save the team from getting relegated, and that their fate is in their own hands. The defender added that rather than waiting for other teams to drop points, the players should concentrate on doing the job on their own.
Talking to reporters Jones said, “We have got massive games until the end of the season now and we just have to pull together as a team and do as best as we can and hopefully that will be enough.”
The 19-year-old added that the players must forget their position in the league table and look forward to picking up maximum points in their remaining matches. The defender is disappointed about losing points in Blackburn's last three home games against Blackpool, Newcastle United and Birmingham City. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 U-21 international feels that Rovers have only themselves to blame but their fate is still in their own hands.
Jones has asked the fans for their support and believes that they will have to play a huge role to push the team towards survival in the coming weeks.
