Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean believes strong defence is key to success
Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean denied that his side had not been their best against Stoke City over the weekend, despite suffering a 3-1 loss in the away fixture. The Scotsman has been using statistical evidence to defend himself for the recent poor
results and the fact that he saved the Rovers from relegation towards the end of the season when he took charge of the club.
Their last eight fixtures see Blackburn Rovers taking just three points and currently find themselves at the bottom of the English Premier League table. The poor start to the season is reminiscent of the Kean’s predecessor Sam Allardyce, whom Kean replaced
at around the same time last year. However, Kean was adamant his side had not done as bad as the media made it look to be.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
“I wouldn't put it down as unacceptable.
I would agree the third goal is poor but to come to a place like this and create 15 chances and get 10 on target should be enough to get you something from the game.”
According to the Rovers boss, the club had to focus on their defence, having conceded three goals in their last two Premier League fixtures. The reason for that though, could easily be the fact that they have been without key players, with the likes of Ryan
Nelsen, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martin-Olsson-c24423 all missing due to various injuries.
He revealed:
“We always score goals and create chances so it is obvious what we need to do is work hard on the defensive side and that is the bit which is costing us at the moment.”
Kean feels his side would improve drastically once they strengthened their defence, since they were already creating chances. The manager also relied on last season, having avoided relegation, to defend himself. He claimed that if Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 could
strengthen defensively as they had done so towards the end of last season, they could definitely gain some points.
Kean continued:
“We need to get an established solid back four like we did for the last nine games of last season when we did not make any changes and got seven results (two wins and five draws).”
