Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean can’t seem to keep everyone happy, reveals Junior Hoilett close to new deal
Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean revealed that he did not think he could keep all the supporters happy, referring to the section of supporters who had organized a march before the clash against Arsenal at Ewood Park over the weekend. The fans asked the
club owners, Venky’s, to consider Kean’s position at the club after a poor start to the new campaign.
Prior to the 4-3 win over visitors http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, Blackburn Rovers had not managed even a single win in the English Premier League. They were at the bottom of the Premier League table, which was where the club had been at the end of last season, barley avoiding
relegation. The fans were understandably upset and felt Kean had to be replaced for the club to return to winning ways once again.
However, Kean felt the team had done well to prove the supporters wrong with their close 4-3 win over the Gunners on Saturday. The Scotsman said he hoped the fans had enjoyed the performance at Ewood Park and were now happy with the way the team had played.
However, he admitted there were some people who he did not expect to win over.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
"I hope anyone who came to the game who wasn't happy with myself or the team before went away enjoying what they saw and how the lads played.
If there was anyone who was slightly unhappy, hopefully we have changed their minds.”
Kean revealed the players had not been happy with the protestors and felt his side would have done even better if the fans had shown their support during the match instead of the pre-match march. The Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 boss said he was aware that he had the
support of 98% of the fans and he was happy with that and did not expect to satisfy everyone.
He continued:
“I know the lads weren't happy with the protest, that was mentioned before we went out.
But if you have 98 per cent fans inside the ground happy then I am quite satisfied with those numbers before any type of protest.”
Kean is currently to convince http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Junior-c20060 Hoilett to sign a long term contract with the club, with the 21-year-old forward’s current contract set to expire in the upcoming season. Hoilett was initially expected to commit his long term future to the Premier League
club during the summer transfer window, but an agreement was not reached due to minor disagreements.
Hoilett graduated to the senior squad in 2007 and spent time out on loan with Paderborn 07 and St. Pauli until 2009. He has made a total of 59 appearances for Blackburn Rovers and has scored 7 goals, proving to be an essential player in Kean’s squad. This
is why the Scotsman is determined to keep him, Kean revealed he expected Hoilett to sign a new contract in the upcoming days.
He said:
“We are getting there very slowly. I believe the term has been agreed and his base salary has been agreed.
It is the smaller detail which can be slow but the main things have been agreed.”
