Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean confident after 3-1 Carling Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday
Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 manager Steve Kean revealed he was certain his side would be able to climb out of the relegation zone after an impressive 3-1 win in the Carling Cup over Sheffield Wednesday. Blackburn Rovers got off to a terrible start to the new season,
losing their opening fixtures which have earned them a spot at the bottom of the English Premier League table.
Former Barcelona B striker Ruben Rochina made a start for the Rovers and found the back of the net twice in the first four minutes of the match. New arrival http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Goodwillie scored a third to give his side a comfortable win in the cup competition, which
has given Kean renewed hope that his side can do better in the Premier League.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
“All the young guys out there were a glimpse of good things in the future. I see Ruben every day and I know what quality he's got.”
Kean was especially impressed by the 20-year-old former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 under-19 international, who was undoubtedly Blackburn’s best player on the pitch. Rochina arrived at Ewood Park in the January transfer window of 2011 after having failed to establish himself
in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 first team. The Spaniard signed on a long-term four year deal with the Premier League outfit.
Kean was impressed with Rochina and the other youngsters who started the game, including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brett-Emerton-c8045 and Goodwillie. Emerton was not only brilliant otherwise; he also set up Rochina’s goal. Even though Goodwillie did not impress too much in the Premier
League, he was amazing against Sheffield, as his terrific left-foot effort ended in the back of the net.
Kean said:
“We wanted to start the game with a tempo that was good and we knew if we did it would cause them problems. We put ourselves in a comfortable position early on.”
Kean was pleased with his side’s dominance early on and the fact that they set the pace of the game and maintained it throughout. While Sheffield Wednesday did manage to score one goal, it came in the second half and did not make too much of a difference
to Blackburn Rovers, who were clear winners after the three goals early on.
