Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean revealed he was certain Junior Hoilett was close to committing his long term future to the English Premier League side. The 21-year-old striker will be out of contract by the end of this season, which means he will be
able to leave on a free transfer in the summer transfer window.
While Kean has been trying to convince Hoilett to sign a contract extension, the two parties have previously been unable to secure a deal. The Scotsman however, is now certain the young Canadian striker has decided to remain at Ewood Park past the summer.
Hoilett’s apparent instability at the club has led to other Premier League sides express interest in acquiring his services. Kean is not looking to let the Canadian leave anytime soon and confirmed it was a high priority for the club to retain the striker’s
services.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
“That will be massive for us and to ensure that the young players we are developing we can keep at the club. There will always be interest when you get people of that ability.”
Having made it past the initial disagreement on the new contract, Kean confirmed Hoilett would indeed be signing a extension with the Rovers. Kean admitted the process had been stretched further than necessary, but it was finally close to being settled.
He revealed:
“The initial delay was length of contract, which has been sorted. Then it was package, which has been taken care of, and then a few minor things.
But it seems to have been dragging on. It doesn't help when his family are over in Canada but I believe they will be over.”
According to Kean, the player and his family were currently in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 soon. The Scotsman refused to confirm when the player was expected to return, but revealed he believed it would be sooner than later.
Kean continued:
“I don't want to put a date on it though because I thought it would be done weeks and weeks ago.”
