Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean revealed skipper Christopher Samba could miss out on the first fixture of the upcoming English Premier League season. The 27-year-old Congolese defender is a doubt for the clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on the opening
day of the season with a nagging groin problem.
Having already missed the pre-season friendly against Kilmarnock over the weekend, Kean is considering resting the player until he is certain the defender is fully fit. Samba will undergo a scan to determine the extent of his injury, after which it will
be decided whether or not the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Congo-c2875 international can lead his team against the Wolves.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
“Chris has a niggling groin injury and I think it'll have to be looked at.
We'll get a full scan on that early this week as it keeps recurring which is a bit disappointing.”
Kean admitted to being disappointed at the possibility of losing the team captain even before the beginning of the season, but revealed he was hopeful Samba could make a quick return. He was certain the medical team at the club would be able to take care
of Samba’s injury and hinted that there was a small possibility that the defender could return in time for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 fixture.
The Blackburn Rovers boss continued:
“We are always hopeful because we have got a fantastic medical team. Dave Fevre and the lads in the medical room, if they can't get him fit then it is because he is nowhere near.
If he is touch and go then I am sure he will be out there.”
Samba joined Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hertha-BSC-c39521 in the January transfer window of 2007 for a fee of £450,000 on a three-and-a-half year contract. He has made a total of 167 appearances for the Premier League side, along with 16 goals and 6 assists. He was
appointed the club captain last season but was stripped of the captaincy when he revealed his desire to leave Ewood Park.
Samba has been linked with a move to London sides http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Tottenham Hotspur, but neither side have yet to make an official bid. The player has previously made his desire to leave the club known, but recently claimed that he wished to focus on his career
at Blackburn Rovers.
