Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean has revealed he hopes the club’s captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Nelsen-c31992 will be injury free when he returns from New Zealand.
The 34-year-old defender has been sidelined since the last nine months with a nagging knee problem and has managed to feature in just one game. He recently flew to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/New-Zealand-c754 to get treated by medical experts, the same team who had managed the All Blacks’
on their way to the Rugby World Cup title.
Having played a major role for the club since he joined in 2005, Nelsen is desperately needed back in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 struggle in the Premier League. Kean admitted he was looking forward to the return of the Rovers captain.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
“Ryan is going to spend 12 to 14 days with them so they can assess the problem and advise him on how to go about his rehab. Ryan is a big player for us, so hopefully he'll return and kick on.”
The Scottish manager revealed that even though Blackburn Rovers desperately needed a player like Nelsen, they would have to wait for his return. He is expected to spend at least 12-14 days with the medical team in New Zealand and depending on progress there,
return to the club.
Nelsen began his professional career with Christchurch United in 1995 and made 96 appearances in the League with 12 goals before moving to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/DC-United-c38901 in 2001. After four years with the side he joined the Blackburn Rovers in 2005.
He joined the English Premier League in the January transfer window of 2005, a short while after completing the MLS season with DC United. He was given a three year contract extension by then manager Mark Hughes, who was extremely impressed by the New Zealand
international.
Nelsen’s latest contract extension will keep him at the club until the end of the 2012-2013 season, with the player showing no signs of slowing down even at the age of 34. He has made a total of 208 appearances in all competitions over the years and has
even scored eight goals.
