Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean hopes Chris Samba and Benjani stay as injuries pile up ahead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 clash
Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean revealed there had been no offers for 27-year-old defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Congo-c2875 international decided to remain at Ewood Park for the upcoming
season.
With the summer transfer window set to close on August 31st, Kean said he hoped he didn’t receive any offers for Samba. Having already lost young English defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Jones-c29903 to Premier League champions Manchester United, Kean is hoping to retain
the services of Samba.
Samba has been linked mainly to London sides http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 boss neither of the sides have made a concrete bid for the Congolese defender. However, there are still 19 days remaining and anything could
happen during that period.
Samba signed a contract extension with Blackburn Rovers at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season, according to which he will remain at the club until 2014. Kean felt that would keep Samba at Ewood Park and dismissed the talks of a possible move as rumours.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 is only a few months into a five-year contract. There have been rumours every single week but we have not had any bids at all, not one, and long may that continue.
We know its life without Phil, and if you lose somebody at the last minute it can be very difficult.
We hope that won't happen, we hope that's the only centre-half we have lost this season and that they phone doesn't ring and that Chris is happy with us.”
Another player whose future is uncertain is Benjani, the 32-year-old Zimbabwean striker. Benjani’s contract with Blackburn Rovers expired at the end of last season and while Kean offered the forward a contract extension he has not yet accepted.
If that remains the case, then Benjani will be leaving Blackburn Rovers on a free move. Kean revealed that the club were currently in talks with the striker and expected an agreement to be reached soon over Benjani’s future.
Kean said:
“We made him a contract offer that was not adequate for what he was after. There has been a little bit of movement on both sides so it's not dead yet.”
Kean has several players missing ahead of the opening English Premier League fixture of the new season against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Along with Samba, who is sidelined with a groin injury, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Nelsen-c31992 is expected to be unavailable for the match over the
weekend.
The 33-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Radosav-Petrovic-c30309 will not make his debut tomorrow since he is still
waiting for his visa after being granted a work permit.
