Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean on defeating Sunderland on Sunday
Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean revealed his squad were motivated enough by the fact that a win against Sunderland would help them above the relegation zone going into the match over the weekend. The Rovers are currently in the bottom three of the Premier
League table, with the Christmas period fast approaching.
According to Kean, all the expectation would be from new Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill and his first match as manager of the Black Cats that it would actually ease some pressure for the Rovers. This would, in Kean’s opinion, actually help Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385
on Sunday.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
"There will be massive expectation on Sunderland; such is the way in that area of the country where the supporters are fanatical.”
He revealed the pressure the supporters put on the manager’s before crucial fixtures and keeping that in mind the pressure of O’Neill would be immense. It was because of this that Kean expected a certain excitement about the fixture that would definitely
lift his player’s spirits up.
He continued:
“There is an expectation now Martin has gone in there and the fans will immediately be thinking there's going to be a change in the way they play.”
Kean is all too aware of what’s in store for his side if they manage back to back wins with a victory over Sunderland on Sunday. Apart from the three crucial points, the squad will have high morale going into the New Year.
Kean continued:
“If we win this game we go out of the bottom three and above Sunderland so that's a fantastic carrot to be dangled in front of the players and they are aware of that.”
However, if they fail to win then Blackburn Rovers will remain in the bottom three of the Premier League table and will only have won two games in the first half of the season. It is essential for the team to secure another win, before it is too late for
Steve Kean.
He added:
“We are looking in all areas of the pitch but we have enough up-and-coming young players so we need to add a bit of experience.”
