Blackburn Rovers close to landing FC Dallas defender George John
Blackburn Rovers look close to signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/George-John-c14564, the 24-year-old defender, his current side FC Dallas confirmed. The Major League Soccer outfit revealed the player had flown to England to finalize his move to the English Premier League in the summer transfer
window.
The Rovers only made a bid for John last week, but have seemed to convince the player to move to Ewood Park. The American defender, who can also double as a defensive midfielder, is currently in talks with the club following the agreement between the two
sides.
Even though John was born in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/America-c38390, he will most likely play for the Greece national team because of his Greek heritage. The defender declined an offer from the United States national team to choose Greece.
Blackburn Rovers have paid an estimated fee of £2 million for the MLS defender and an official statement by FC Dallas confirmed the player was going to Greece to finalise his passport, after which he can gain a work permit in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.
Barry Gorman, the FC Dallas technical director, revealed that John had indeed travelled to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Greece-c2908 to acquire his passport. He said that while the transfer had not been finalised as yet, there was a possibility the player would complete the move in the next
few days.
The FC Dallas technical director revealed that he understood the defender’s desire to play in the English Premier League, which is considered one of the best football leagues in the world. With John keen on a move, FC Dallas couldn’t do much to stop him.
Gorman said while speaking to reporters:
“For the young man to get on a plane and go all the way to Greece to pick up his passport and expedite it, there has to be some kind of solid ground there.
He continued:
“We realise that this league is a picking ground for bigger leagues, and you've got a young man like George, who's been successful in this league and gets what seems to be a golden opportunity like this, a club or a league can't stand in his way.”
The player’s agent revealed that the fee had been agreed between the two sides had been agreed upon, but John was yet to discuss personal terms with Blackburn Rovers. He said the MLS side had allowed him to travel to sort out his passport, which is what
he was currently doing.
John’s agent said in an interview:
“The fee has been agreed in principle.
We haven't negotiated personal terms with Blackburn.”
