Blackburn Rovers defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-c25453 Salgado urges side to focus on the Premier League
Michel Salgado, the 35-year-old Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 defender, revealed his side had to focus on the Premier League rather than the transfer window. The Rovers, under manager, Steve Kean have gotten to a poor start to the new season and the Spaniard believed
it was because the club was more focused on new transfers than the ongoing fixtures.
Blackburn Rovers have gone on to lose their opening two fixtures of the new English Premier League season against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa. While the club’s owners, Venky’s, were initially not too keen on new signings, they seem to have changed
their mind after the poor start and are now looking to bring in players before the summer transfer window closes.
With the deadline day of the transfer window just days away, Blackburn Rovers have identified a number of players and have launched their bids. Some of the bids are ridiculous, with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 linked with a move to English
Premier League side. Salgado felt the club had to focus more on the Premier League.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international said while speaking to reporters:
“We need to know now the players are committed to the team and the club.
If we are focused we can turn things around easily and if we know who's going to be playing with us.”
Salgado revealed it was necessary for the management to determine which players were committed to the club and then build on it. While most of the players are reportedly happy at Ewood Park, a few have been linked with a move away. Most notably, Christopher
Samba is thought to want a move to London side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429.
Salgado continued:
“We are talking about new signings and rubbish like that but we need to focus in the games because the Premier League is too demanding and too tight.”
Salgado joined the English Premier League outfit in the summer transfer window of 2009 on a two year deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid. He has gone on to make a total of 64 appearances over the two seasons at the club in all competitions and has even
scored a goal. He was recently awarded with a contract extension, which will most likely see him end his career at Ewood Park.
The Spaniard stressed on the importance of focusing on the Premier League, having already had such a terrible start. He was confident the Rovers could recover if they were able to determine the departures and arrivals in the remaining few days of the transfer
window. He urged the players to be supportive of Kean, who he felt was going through a tough time.
He said:
“We're days away from the window closing and we don't know if new signings are coming or if any other players are leaving. That's very difficult. We need to know that as soon as possible.”
