Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelson ruled out of EPL campaign
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/New-Zealand-c754 and Blackburn defender, Ryan Nelson, is out for the season after suffering a serious knee injury in Blackburn’s 1-1 draw against Birmingham City in an English Premier League (EPL) encounter.
It is reported that the 33-year old had an operation and is expected not to be fully fit before August 2011.
Injury to the New Zealand skipper is a major blow to Blackburn, as the club are battling to avoid relegation from the EPL, at present Blackburn are placed 15th in the EPL standings and are just three points above the drop zone.
In Blackburn’s current season, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christopher-Samba-c9212, and, Nelson at centre-back positions have been solid. So far Nelson has made 28 appearances for the club scoring three goals in the process.
Blackburn manager, Steve Kean, has stated that the operation was successful and doctors are very positive about Nelson returning to full fitness in the given time frame.
However, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 boss admitted it is disappointing to lose Nelson at this stage of the season.
Kean said on the club’s official website, "Ryan had an operation on his knee and he is out for the rest of the season unfortunately".
There is some good news for the Rovers fans, Nelson's replacement, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Jones-c29903, is on his road to recovery, as the youngster completed a full training session with his team, Jones was also out with a knee problem but it seems he is fit for Blackburn’s season
run-in.
“Fortunately for us we lose Ryan at a time when Phil Jones is back fully fit, He’s slotted back in there and looked like he'd never been away from central defence, so that is fantastic for us, but it is unfortunate that we lose Nelly", added the Rovers manager.
The bottom end of the EPL table is wide open with just six games remaining in the season and only seven points separate the last 10 clubs, the relegation battle is far from over.
Blackburn are up against Everton in their next EPL fixture on April 16, 2011.
