Blackburn Rovers supporters have launched a share investment scheme in an attempt to buy the club from current owners Venky’s.
According to reports The Blackburn Rovers Supporters’ Investment Trust has been created with intent of bringing the English Premier League club into community ownership. The project is being led by the director of WEC Group Wayne Wild, who is a commercial
partner and sponsor of the club.
Wild has the support of all the fans who are dissatisfied with owner’s Venky’s and manager Steve Kean. It is the same group of fans who began the organized protests against manager Steve Kean at Ewood Park during Premier League fixtures.
After a poor start to the current season, a section of the supporters developed the opinion that the club would be better off without Kean as the manager and Venky’s as the owner. In their point of view, Kean had made some questionable decisions and had
to be replaced.
The fans took to organized protests at Ewood Park before, during and after matches, in which Steve Kean also faced abuse. Many other managers and players condemned the abuse and the protests, which were ultimately banned by the club.
Wild believes things have come to a head and need to be dealt with, he revealed they had created the trust as an option to bring the supporters in control of affairs since they were clearly unhappy with the way things were being run currently.
Wild said while speaking to reporters:
“At some point, and maybe soon, we believe Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 will be put up for sale.
We believe the best ownership model for Blackburn Rovers is to be entirely owned by the supporters through a trust.
We are seeking to engage with the current owners to advise them of our plans and we ask that they consider our proposals seriously as a credible and respectful way to pass on ownership of the club.”
Wild revealed the project was currently in its early stages and that they were going to start off with enquiring the number of supporters who would be interested in buying shares. After which they would attempt to collect funds.
He continued:
“We will raise funds to buy the club by issuing a sufficient number of shares to meet a realistic valuation at the time of purchase.”
