League One side Rochdale AFC manager Steve Eyre revealed he expected Jake Kean, the goalkeeper on loan from Blackburn Rovers to develop into a top class stopper. The 20-year-old English goalkeeper joins Rochdale on loan for the entire season after returning to Ewood Park from his season long loan at Hartlepool United last season.
After an impressive season with Hartlepool United, where he made 19 appearances in the League and managed to keep 10 clean sheets, Kean has managed to impress his new boss Eyre. The Rochdale manager admitted he was already a big fan of the young keeper.
It was the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-20 international who stepped up and helped his side earn a win in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash against Walsall. The match went to penalties and the Rovers stopper made two saves which undoubtedly helped Rochdale earn the win.
Eyre said in an interview:
“He's Blackburn Rovers' goalkeeper and he's going to be an outstanding goalkeeper.
Hopefully that will be for Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League.
From our point of view we see this as an ideal place for him to develop and a game like this proves that.”
Eyre was certain Kean’s loan spell at Rochdale would help him develop and give him the much needed first team experience, which he was unlikely to receive at his at parent club. According to the Rochdale manager, the player would definitely go on to be a success in the Premier League once he returned to the Rovers.
The youngster himself was pleased with his arrival at the League One side for the season long loan, claiming he expected it to help him in the long run. Kean insisted his main motivation was to impress Blackburn Rovers and was prepared for the challenge that awaited him at Rochdale AFC.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
“The aim as a loan player is always to try and impress your parent club. The aim is to go and play for them in the Premier League.
Hartlepool last year was brilliant and I couldn't begin to thank them enough for what they did for me. To come here is a different challenge and I'm really starting to settle in and enjoy it.”
