Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean focused on the Premier League
Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 manager Steve Kean admitted he had not taken the Carling Cup clash against Cardiff City seriously because he wanted his side to focus on the English Premier League. One disappointing result after the other, the Rovers were dumped out of
the League Cup after a 2-0 loss to Cardiff City.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kenny-Miller-c20631 and Anthony Gerrard were the goal scorers for the home side as they successfully reached the semi-finals of the cup competition. Now Steve Kean finds his side not just at the bottom of the Premier League table, but also out of the cup competition.
However, the Scotsman was certain he had made the right decision to leave out important players from the cup tie. Those players, namely http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-c25453 Salgado will make a return in the upcoming Premier League matches.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
“Before the game I had a decision to make in as far as I wanted to push Samba, Olsson and Salgado, who never travelled for this game.
They could have played at a push and if we had been in a slightly different position in the league. We have Swansea coming up so I made five changes and left those lads behind. We wanted to make sure we have those lads available for Saturday.”
The Blackburn Rovers boss admitted he was disappointed by the result, having lost 2-0 to a Championship side. He also acknowledged the fact that the fans were disappointed now, more than ever, but felt he had made the right decision for the club for the
long run.
He continued:
“We now have games against sides who are within touching distance of us in the league and we need to treat those games as cup finals because we have not got through to the final of this competition.”
Blackburn Rovers face relatively easier sides in their next three Premier League fixtures, starting off with Swansea City, Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion. All three are bottom half sides and a win over them will ensure points and hopefully a move upwards
for Kean and his men.
