Blackburn Rovers near to Indian takeover
Premier League outfit Blackburn Rovers are on the brink of being taken over by Indian poultry conglomerate Venky's. The club have claimed a deal could go through as early as next month
according to the Blackburn chairman John Williams.
Williams stated: "A series of meetings, including discussions with the Premier League, have followed an extensive due diligence process. Both parties are hopeful that the transaction will
be completed in November.”
Williams’ words were backed up by Venkys' chairperson Anuradha J. Desai who suggested it was just a case of the deal being rubber-stamped, before the takeover was completed.
"We expect to be the first Indian company to acquire a Premier League team and we are particularly delighted that the team is Blackburn Rovers with whom we believe we have many shared
values and ambitions,” explained Desai.
Blackburn had been the subject of numerous proposed buy-outs over the course of the summer, but none had come to fruition. However, they now appear on the verge
of sealing a deal, one which will delight manager Sam Allardyce, who spoke recently of the need for a new injection of money to come into the club.
"Investment is needed at every football club and investment here has dried up somewhat because of the club being up for sale,” stated the former Bolton and Newcastle
boss.
With the club sitting a frustrating 17th in the table and seemingly destined to fight off relegation for the foreseeable future, this will come as a
major boost to everyone at the club. And Allardyce is adamant the Lancashire club represent an excellent opportunity for the buying party.
"We have a strong base at Rovers, a very good club which is run and managed very professionally indeed. Blackburn Rovers has a strong history and it could have
a bright future, given the right sort of investment," claimed the 56-year-old.
