Blackburn Rovers retain striker Benjani for another year while Nikola Kalinic nears exit
Benjani given one year contract extension
Benjani, the 32-year-old Zimbabwean striker, has confirmed that he will be with Blackburn Rovers next season, having signed a one year contract extension with the club.
It was previously stated that the Rovers were planning to offload Benjani in the summer transfer window; with the forward having his contract expired at the end of last season.
He was apparently also included in the club’s list of the players they expected to offload in this summer’s transfer window.
However, the player confirmed he had no intention of leaving Ewood Park and wanted to continue playing for the Rovers.
Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 manager Steve Kean was impressed with Benjani’s performance last season, which is why he agreed to retain his services for another season.
After transferring from Manchester City in 2010, Benjani made 18 appearances for the Rovers in the English Premier League and scored 3 goals.
Benjani confirmed he would be staying with Blackburn while speaking to reporters, he said:
“Yes, yes, I will be back at Blackburn Rovers again next season. I think the deal will be finalised in the next few days and then I can look forward to doing my best with the club.
I don't know if there were other clubs who wanted me because I always wanted to come back to Blackburn. I hope that will be sorted now.”

Nikola Kalinic could be heading towards a Blackburn Rovers exit, the 23-year-old Croatian striker’s agent confirmed.
With Kalinic having failed to secure a place in the first team at Ewood Park, the Croatian international could be making a move away for regular football.
The player’s representative said in an interview:
“We want to talk to the coach as soon as possible so we know what happens next.
Nikola is contracted to Blackburn but there are a lot of clubs who we believe would want him.”
Steve Kean has been given an ultimatum, if he fails to guarantee regular football for Kalinic, he will be leaving the club despite being contracted to the Rovers until the end of the 2012 season.
He transferred to Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2009 for a fee of £6 million from Croatian outfit http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/HNK-Hajduk-Split-c39534.
