Blackburn Rovers sign Herold Goulon
Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has signed French midfielder Herold Goulon on a two-year contract.
If Goulon impresses during his time at Ewood Park, the club may sign him for an additioal year.
Allardyce believes that the player can add some power, strength and pace to his midfield due to the 22-year old's big physical presence, and has touted Goulon as a player for the future at Blackburn, hoping that he will add some athleticism and energy to
the team.
The 6ft 4in midfielder will compete with the likes of Keith Andrews and Brett Emerton for a starting position.
Goulon started his career with Lyon before he moved to Middlesbrough, at 18 years old, to play under the then Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate.
Since then, Goulon has returned to the French League and played with Le Mans. But he left the club in the summer, and has trained with Blackburn on a trial basis.
"I always wanted to come back because I think this is the best league in Europe and in the world. It was a target to come back here and stay."
Allardyce hopes that the young French player will provide a combative and defensive presence to the midfield.
The Blackburn manager is unlikely to play Goulon in the Premier League match against Liverpool this Sunday, 24 October, but he hopes that the player can challenge for a midfield position.
Blackburn drew 0-0 in their last Premier League match and they will visit Anfield with Liverpool devoid of confidence after their dismal season so far.
Blackburn are currently in 14th place and have taken nine points from eight games. Goulon hopes that Blackburn can improve as the season progresses.
With Andrew’s missing, the player may feature sooner rather than later.
