Blackburn Rovers striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Grenada-c2910 international revealed he was aware of the lack of opportunities black managers had and was hopeful
he would do better than his uncles, Cyrille and Dave Regis, both of whom had been unable to succeed at managerial posts.
According to Roberts there were statistics that proved black managers were not given as much opportunities as the other managers. In the 92 English League clubs there are currently just two black managers, which just goes to prove Roberts observation. There
are currently attempts being undertaken to ensure there is an ethnic diversity when interviewing manager’s for a club.
Roberts said while speaking to reporters:
“Opportunity is the key thing. The numbers don't stack up.
A high percentage of these guys want to go into management and feel like they don't get the opportunity.”
He continued:
“Bigger names than me have been put off by it, and bigger names than me have done their badges and not been given an opportunity.”
While he plans to complete his coaching badges soon, Roberts is currently focused on helping his side recover from a poor start to the season. Blackburn Rovers have just managed a single point from four English Premier League, with their latest fixture against
Fulham ending in a 1-1 draw. As they prepare to take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, Roberts revealed he was certain new arrival Yakubu could have an impact on the side.
Along with Yakubu, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Simon-Vukcevic-c33571 are two more players brought in during the summer transfer window in an attempt to revive the club. Yakubu, the 28-year-old Nigerian striker, arrived from Everton after spending the latter half of last season
on a loan move to Championship side Leicester City. He managed to score 11 goals in 20 appearances for the Championship side.
Roberts said:
“Yakubu's goal scoring record is outstanding and I think he's going to be very good for this football club.
I've played with him and know him very well as a friend. He's had some injury problems recently but when he plays he brings something to the game which I think we have been missing. That is why I think he is a very good signing.”
