Blackburn Rovers vs. Arsenal: Fantasy Premier League Picks – Gameweek 5
The Barclays Premier League is headed towards its fifth week of action and it may still be early days but one can get an idea of which sides will be pack leaders and which will be struggling to keep up.
That gives Fantasy Premier League managers plenty to think about when it comes to choosing players, and with Gameweek 5 pitting some closely matched teams against eachother, it will be a tricky weekend.
However, we here like to take it one match at a time and see which players will shine, making it easier for managers to pick a player or players based on individual matches.
Overview
Arsenal still seems to be suffering from the thrashing they received at the hands of Manchester United in Gameweek 3. A shaky win against Swansea, which many will deem fortunate, and an unlucky draw against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League,
mean that all is still not back to normal in the Gunners camp.
Yet, the London side could not have asked for better opposition on the weekend, as their opponents, Blackburn Rovers, are bottom of the league with only one point to show. With a leaky defence, a hapless midfield and an ineffective strike force, Blackburn
look like a side that desperately need to turn things around.
However, Arsenal have a number of players returning from suspension including Emmanuel Frimpong and Gervinho and will field a more complete squad.
A tough call this one if recent results are to be taken into consideration but Arsenal should emerge on top when the final whistle blows.
On the basis of that managers should decide which players they might want to transfer out or into the team and if any players should be put on the bench.
Goal Keepers
Arsenal keeper, Wojciech Szczesny and Blackburn Rovers keeper, Paul Robinson, should both be avoided for this Gameweek, as well as the next couple of Gameweeks as well. Neither keeper has shown a commanding presence or given off a sense of security.
It would be a huge risk playing either of them so a keeper from another team would be a better option.
Defenders
While Arsenal’s defence may not be the most solid in the league, it does have one quality which every Fantasy Premier League manager should be on the lookout for: attack minded wing backs.
Kieran Gibbs earned a fair amount of points in the previous Gameweek and looks to be in form, yet it is better to stay with the tried and trusted and we would recommend Bacary Sagna as a better choice.
More consistent and capable of both setting up and scoring goals, Sagna is the Arsenal defender managers should be looking to keep in their teams.
We would advise against any Blackburn defenders for this match, seeing their consistently poor defensive record.
Midfielders
A tricky one here, with both teams offering very little in terms of in-form players. However, the pace and guile of Theo Walcott should be taken into consideration, as the player seems to be the only Gunner capable of changing a match.
Again Blackburn players should be avoided.
Strikers
Robin Van Persie is the name that every manager should be thinking about. If anyone is going to score for Arsenal, chances are it is going to be him, their captain.
Our Picks: For this match we would recommend Robin Van Persie as he seems the most likely player on the pitch to score.
