Blackburn Rovers vs. Manchester City: Fantasy Premier League Picks – Gameweek 7
The Champions League Group Stages took centre stage during midweek, but with the top teams from each league having battled it out, it is now time to return to business as usual in the Barclays Premier League.
Looking for the right type of player to select for one’s Fantasy Premier League side can be tricky, however, our approach is to view each match individually, predict which players will find their form against the opposition and by the end of analysing all
fixtures, make the necessary changes to the team.
Overview
This weekend throws up a number of interesting match ups; however, one match which everyone will be keeping an eye on is Blackburn Rovers versus Manchester City.
Blackburn have gotten themselves off to the worst start imaginable and their manager, Steve Kean, knows he is inching ever closer to the axe with each match.
However, there has been plenty of controversy surrounding Manchester City’s camp, as their former captain, Carlos Tevez, allegedly refused to come on a substitute in their Champions League match against German opposition, Bayern Munich.
All of these factors should be taken into account as they play a vital role in the psyche of a team.
Goal Keeper
An easy choice here, one that every manager can rely on, regardless of whether or not they are picking their keeper on the basis of this match or otherwise: Joe Hart.
The Manchester City keeper has been earning points on a consistent basis, with the only mishap in recent memory being the fact that he conceded two goals against Fulham a few game weeks ago.
His opposite number, Blackburn’s Paul Robinson, is the Fantasy Premier League equivalent to Swiss cheese and should be avoided for a number of reasons, Manchester City’s attack being one.
Defenders
Any player from Manchester City’s back four should do the trick; however, we are fans of wing backs as they can earn points for defending and attacking at the same time. Gael Clichy has been a favourite for managers but his fellow teammate, Micah Richards,
is the player in form these days.
As for Blackburn, it is best if one leaves any Rovers players on the bench or transfer them out for this gameweek if they can, as the likes of David Silva and Sergio Aguero will surely prove too strong for them.
Midfielders
Again, if managers want a player for their sides then David Silva should be one of the players who top the list. Scoring and creating chances for fellow team-mates, Silva was arguably Manchester City’s Man of the Match against Everton.
Unfortunate to have a goal disallowed, Silva seems the one constant in Roberto Mancini’s side.
Strikers
A tough choice here, Edin Dzeko or Sergio Aguero? To be honest, Dzeko’s reaction when he was taken off during the Champions League match may suggest that the striker is slightly frustrated, which may affect his performance.
Aguero, on the other hand, is sharp and in consistent form, so we would have to go with him.
Our picks: it is going to be a case of ‘by how much’ Manchester City win will and one player who will have a major part to play is David Silva, which is why he is our pick for the match…again.
