Blackburn manage to hold Manchester City on for hard earned draw
Paul Robinson showed some inspired form on the night as the keeper managed to help Blackburn get a draw against Manchester City at the Eastlands
The former England number one, Paul Robinson, had the City players holding their heads as they were forced to walk away from the goal, thanks to some brilliant shot stopping by the keeper. However to everyone's surprise Joe Hart was not able to match those performances for the first time in the season at the other end of the pitch.
A long wishfully hit ball by Morten Gamst Pedersen resulted in a massive mix-up at the back of the Manchester City defensive line as Kolo Toure and Joe Hart were left looking at each other, while Nikola Kalinic eased past the defense to stoke the ball into an empty net and give Blackburn one of the most surprising leads on the night.
It was the first time in the Premier League season so far that Roberto Mancini's men conceded in the Premier League and it was done in such a manner that the manager was sure to have nightmares about the goal for the coming few weeks.
Manchester City however managed to pull a goal back ten minutes into the restart after the second half. Patrick Viera got his first goal of the season for Manchester City as the midfielder ran into the heart of the Blackburn defensive line before exchanging passes with Carlos Tevez. The player then found himself open in front of goal after a brilliant return ball from the Argentine and made no mistake in blasting the ball into the roof of the net from near point blank range.
Manchester City looked more than just threatening on the night. The team's attacks were lead by Adam Johnson as the team went on to try and break a resilient Blackburn defense, however the teams efforts proved to come short of the mark.
On the other end a brilliant defensive performance by Christopher Samba and some more than brilliant saves from Robinson ensured that Blackburn got the more then deserved point from the game. Despite the fact that the home fan's were booing the visiting team for most parts of the game, they would all have to agree that Blackburn deserved the point that they got from the game.
This draw will give both the teams a lot to think about. With Mancini looking to see just how he can utilize his star studded squad for optimum performances, While Blackburn will be wondering just what they did right tonight.
