Blackdown Fair to produce shocking result in 32Red Supporting British Racing Handicap at Wolverhampton
Blackdown Fair is probably the bravest bet at Wolverhampton on Friday evening. The 3-year-old is due to appear in the 32Red Supporting British Racing Handicap, and despite being a talented runner, she has failed to get attention of the bookies.
The odds are nowhere in her favour. The bookmakers look more interested in Sky Crossing, who has been given the highest odds. Including the 4-1 favourite, there are plenty to consider in an open handicap.
Yet, a chance should be taken on Blackdown Fair, who displayed a splendid show over seven furlongs at Kempton last time. The Rod Millman-trained was no more than an unlucky loser, missing the gold just by half a length.
It was a blanket finish, as the top four crossed the wire almost simultaneously. In the hands of Mirco Demuro, Blackdown Fair showed good progress after taking a not-so-impressive start.
She was in an excellent position to claim the first place, but staying on one pace in the final 75 yards did not help her cause. As a result, she ended up fourth, missing the podium by a neck’s distance only.
The daughter of Trade Fair should be judged on her latest act, which was pretty impressive. A repeat of that form can see her taking the big prize home today.
She is all set to face 11 speedy horses. The contest will be for a handy prize worth £2,264. The class 5 meeting, which will be run over seven furlongs and 32 yards, is scheduled to get underway at 19:45 GMT.
Sky Crossing definitely has fair chances. James Given’s charge is enjoying a handy draw, and has been quite better since upped from sprinting. He will be ridden by Graham Lee - one of the fine jockeys around.
Willies Wonder can do the trick on this surface. The Charles Hills-trained deserves respect on his latest second. Relentless Harry has earned good odds, but needs to do something special to settle down here.
We cannot blame bookies for giving good odds to Sky Crossing, Willies Wonder and Restaurateur, because each of the trio has one or two things in favour. Nevertheless, it will be a poor move to rule out an upset from Blackdown Fair.
