Blackjack - other players being annoyed by your play ?

Hi all,

I was at a casino for the first time (ever) and played blackjack with my friend... I played 9 hands of which I won 6 and came away with 2/3 of the money i started with... yet the other player at the table was constantly critisizing and loudly moaning to her friend about every move we made...

...Is there something that my friend or I did that aggrivated her ?

she kept muttering *moan moan new members moan moan*

what was she so irritated about - it made us very uncomfortable!

thanks !

  1. remember that empty vessels make the loudest noise.

how you play the game doesn't determine the outcome.

If i was the dealer or the inspector on the game i'd have told her to shut up or find a different table.

  2. Many players at a blackjack will become upset if everyone at the table is not playing proper basic strategy.  If you "hit" is a situation where basic strategy says "stand", the player to your right may feel that you "took his card".  I personally feel this is silly, but people often get emotional when dealing with money.

May I suggest you learn basic strategy?  Basic strategy is a set of rules for hitting or standing depending on your hand total and the dealers upcard.  The rules are based on mathematical probablities and allow the player to make the best mathematical decision when playing.

You can practice basic strategy and card counting for free at...

    http://www.card-counting-blackjack.com

It assists you with basic multi-deck strategy, instructing you how to play against the dealers upcard. The strategy matrix can be shown or hidden.

It assists with the mulitple card counting systems. It keeps the count for you, which you can show or hide. That way you show the computers count only when you want to double check your own count. Plus, it tracks each card played as well.

  3. Dont worry bout other people when playing, unless your losing :)

  4. People will complain if you are not playing proper basic strategy, and this will continue as long as you make strange plays. It's kind of ironic though, as 99% of these people don't play properly either, and will complain when you make some by the book plays that they don't know like hitting a 12 vs a dealer 3 or hitting a soft 18 against a dealer 10.

Anyway, I would suggest that if you want to continue to play blackjack, you try to learn proper basic strategy. Even if you decide to veer from it now and then, at least you'll have a better idea of when you're making a borderline play and when you're making a REALLY bad play.

Don't worry about these people though. I can guarantee you that they suck too, lol. Just have fun and do what you want. If they get too out of hand, casino personnel will step in and tell them to chill out or leave.

  5. I've seen players get upset when you make a play that doesn't go "by the book" (like hitting with 18, staying with 13, etc) that effects other players' hands.   Unless you were taking up a lot of time, then this is the only thing I can think of.

I wouldn't worry about it, I've been at tables where other players were not very patient, and times where other players were more than willing to help newbs out.

  6. There is some general rules of blackjack, and some people seem to get upset when people don't rule basic blackjack rules (and the fact you won this way probably bugged them more.) You should just blow them off. I know the basic rules of blackjack, but there are times I just listen to my gut. I had some people make comments, but I am gambling my money so I will play like I want to.

If they really had that big of a problem playing with you, than they should have found another table.

Here is a site that has the "basic" way to blackjack. It is more to help you with the odds but not always.
