  1. some casinos play face-up, where players are not allowed to touch the cards. however, for a home game, this is usually not the case. also, for a home game, since one person is the bank, it's unfair for the players to see all the cards, but the bank is unable to decide to stand or hit.

  2. In theory it doesn't matter because you are not playing against other players and the house can't make decisions. They just follow a set of prescribed rules (the only rule that varies from game to game is if you should stand or hit on a soft 17).

= In reality it does make a difference. The game moves significantly faster if all of the cards are face up. If the cards are dealt face down, you can only touch them with one hand so that it minimizes your ability to cheat. Also when you grab the cards to look at them it give you an opportunity to wave your hand over the bet and add a chip or take one away.

= In single deck blackjack the cards are always dealt face down. This is because the card counter has the greatest advantage in a single deck game. If they are all face up he has a chance to influence that hand. If they are dealt face down and turned over at the end, the card counter has to wait until the next hand to use his count.

= Very few Vegas casinos deal a single deck game anymore with full blackjack payout of 3 to 2. I know of two or three casinos left and they are very small. It is against the state regulations in Atlantic City.

  3. When you play in a casino, you are playing against the house, trying to beat the dealers hand, so it doesn't matter if the other players see your cards or not.

Here goes; you get a card face up, then the dealer gets a card face down, you get a card face up and the dealer gets a card face down, they then turn over that first card and place it on top of the 2nd face down card. You act on your hand depending what your cards are and the dealers up card, staying or hitting until your happy with your hand.  When your done, the dealer acts on their hand. All casinos have an amount they are required to reach, mostly 17.

  4. In a casino, when you are playing a multi deck game, meaning they deal from a stack of more than one deck, the cards are dealt face up on the table and only the dealer is allowed to touch them.

When you are playign single deck, typically the cards are dealt face down to all of the players and they are allowed to pick them up and look at them.

If you play in a casino do not play single deck games that have a 6:5 payout for blackjacks.
