Blackpool make four signings
Blackpool have recruited four new players ahead of the English Premier League season opener this weekend.
Northern Ireland Under-21 central defender Craig Cathcart has joined up from Manchester United. The 21-year-old has signed for manager Ian Holloway’s team for an undisclosed fee. He had not featured for the first team at Old Trafford after working his way up through the youth ranks. He joined the club as a trainee in 2005 and had spells on loan with Royal Antwerp, Plymouth Argyle and Watford.
The club have also snapped up three French players: Ludovic Sylvestre, Elliot Grandin and Martin Malaury.
Winger Grandin, 22, has been signed on a two-year deal from CSKA Sofia on a two-year contract, and is relishing the chance to test himself in the EPL. He told his new club’s official website that: "I'm very happy to be here, I'm looking forward to the start of the season with the club. The Premier League is the best championship in the world so I'm very happy and I hope to have a great season.”
'Very happy'
Malaury, 21, is a midfielder who has arrived on a free transfer after being released from Monaco and also spoke of his delight at joining the Seasiders. He had been training with club for a month before being offered a one-year deal and said that: "I'm very happy to be here and I think I'm going to enjoy playing for Blackpool. I've been here one month now and the other players are good. I want to do my best in this good team. They are good players with a good mentality.”
Midfielder Sylvestre, meanwhile, has joined up from Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic. He is a former Barcelona youth player and has signed a two-year deal, with option for a third, as he looks to make his mark in the English top flight.
