Blackpool manager Ian Holloway confident that his side can avoid relegation this season: EPL News
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway remains optimistic of his side’s chances of retaining their Barclays Premier League status after seeing them earn a precious point against Newcastle United at Bloomfield road on Saturday.
The Tangerines came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at home, but manager Ian Holloway believes that his side deserved to win the match. The enigmatic Englishman insists that Blackpool should have been awarded two penalty decisions. He claims that if those
penalty shouts had gone his way, his side would have walked away with all three points on the night.
Speaking after the match, Holloway said, “I thought we had two clear penalties, that’s why I was shouting and screaming at the fourth official. I didn’t mean to but it’s an emotional day and emotional game but today there was some strange things given and
some things that didn’t go our way. I cannot believe it.”
The Tangerines boss has been critical of the referee’s decisions in recent matches, and he was once again left fuming. He added, “It can’t be week in week out that we don’t get decisions that other people do.”
Blackpool have now moved up into 17th place in the Premier League standings, but they are still far from safe. The Tangerines are level on points with their closest rivals at the foot of the table, and only goal difference currently separates
the two. However, Ian Holloway still believes that his side can avoid the drop this season.
The Blackpool boss added, “So people who want to write us off can do it at their peril because we still believe we have got one h**l of a fight on our hands and one h**l of a chance to stay at this level. I thought my lads were absolutely fantastic today
and they need to be to the very last game and the last whistle goes, we’ve got to set that as our benchmark.”
Blackpool face Stoke City in their next match in the Barclays Premier League.
