Former Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam looks set to complete his move to Liverpool after the Reds confirmed that they had agreed to terms with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scotland-c756 international. The fee has not been disclosed but it is expected to be somewhere in the region of
£9 million.
Adam becomes the second player Liverpool have signed in the summer transfer window, with Sunderland youngster http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-21 international for an inflated price of £16 million.
The Reds have managed to sign Adam on a relatively cheaper deal, considering the 25-year-old midfielder is a far more experienced player than Henderson. Adam decided he wanted a move away from Blackpool after the side were relegated at the end of last season.
His desire to play in the English Premier League was realized by Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish, who identified Adam as one of his targets in the summer transfer window. Adam has passed his medical at the Melwood training ground and will be announced as a
Liverpool player soon.
Adam posted on his Twitter yesterday before the medical:
“In Liverpool again. I hope to be here this season and to give something to the team, I am with energy to do it.”
Similarly, the Reds have identified the players they intend on keeping in the future and luckily for Glen Johnson, he is one of them. The 26-year-old full back c*m midfielder has been given a contract extension which will keep him at Anfield in the upcoming
seasons.
Damien Comolli, the director of football at Liverpool, revealed they were extremely pleased with the contract extension with Johnson. He said in an interview:
“We are very pleased he wants to commit long term and I think he was pleased we went to him and asked him to commit long term.
His best years are to come. Very often defenders peak between 26 and 31, so he is just entering into those years where a maturity comes in and his knowledge of the game gets better and better.”
