Blackpool record shock win against Newcastle
Blackpool managed to contain Newcastle at the St James' Park for the very first time since May 2009, in one of the most unlikeliest of wins. Blackpool's shocker resulted in a score of two goals against Newcastle.
A penalty from Charlie Adam right on the stroke of the half time gave the away team the lead. The killer blow came in the dying stages of the second half as DJ Campbell curled a brilliantly taken shot into the back of the net, after Blackpool sprung on the counter.
The star on the night however was the Blackpool goal keeper Matt Gilks. The keeper was in subliminal form on the night as he went on to make save after brilliant save. There were chances for Newcastle that were destined to end in goals, however Gilks had plans of his own.
The keeper was present ever time Newcastle looked to threaten the Blackpool goal and kept the home team out for the ninety minutes. His best save on the night was a point blank save from, Newcastle's in form striker Andy Caroll. The keeper got down brilliantly to stop the ball from rolling past him as he stunned both the away fans and the home fans with that save.
Blackpool despite being thrashed by Arsenal previously, looked to attack the home team from the very first minute of the match. The Blackpool offense seemed to be a little too much for Newcastle as the teams defenders were left looking sloppy as they were falling all over the place.
In the44th minute, Alan Smith mis-timed a tackle on Luke Varney and the referee had no choice but to award the penalty. The resulting penalty kick was then converted by Charlie Adam. However the striker rushed to the by line as he reveled his tshirt which read '4 Parky' in honor of the teams coach Gary Parkinson who is currently admitted into the hospital and is critically ill.
Despite Newcastle coming out in the second half, with much more intensity then they had in the first half, they couldn't manage to get anything past the Blackpool defense.
In the dying minutes Blackpool hit a brilliant counter which saw the ball roll into the feet of Campbell and the player created space for himself brilliantly before whipping the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the area with perfection.
