Blackpool v Arsenal – Second half review: English Premier League - Part 1
Blackpool kicked off the second half of their encounter against Arsenal in the English Premier League with a bang as the referee awarded them a free kick in the 46th minute. The home side was trailing the Gunners by two goals, due to Emmanuel
Eboué and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jens-Lehmann-c18297’s goal by some distance.
In the 49th minute, Blackpool almost gained a route back into the match thanks to another free kick that was awarded to them by Referee, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-c21860 Mason. Charlie Adam was Blackpool’s free kick taker again but this time his pass found Luke Varney inside
the Arsenal penalty area. Luckily enough for the Gunners, Varney’s shot was just wide of the target as Arsenal survived their first real scare of the second half.
In the 52nd minute, Ian Holloway’s men built on their bright start to the second half as they scored a vital goal through Gary-Taylor Fletcher. The move was initiated by Jason Puncheon who played DJ Campbell through with a superb pass which dissected
Arsenal’s two center backs. Campbell was clean through on goal but the Englishman was brought down by Jens Lehmann. However, the referee signaled the players to play on as Fletcher followed up to finish off the attack with a fine shot into the bottom corner
of Arsenal’s net.
Blackpool’s first goal propelled them to move in for the kill as Ian Holloway ushered them onwards from his dug out. The Tangerines almost equalized in the 54th minute as Fletcher was brought down inside the Arsenal penalty area by Koscielny.
However, the referee refused to succumb to the home crowd’s pressure as he deemed the Frenchman’s tackle as a fair one. In the 56th minute, the Tangerines embarked on another attack.
This time Fletcher was on the crossing end as he whipped in a sublime cross towards Keith Southern. Blackpool’s midfielder was able to make contact with the ball, but his header was just wide of the mark as Arsenal was let off once again for their weak defensive
display. In the 60th minute, Arsene Wenger opted to make his team’s first change of the night, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andy-Reid-c6050 replayed the mercurial Luke
Varney.
