Blackpool vs Stoke City: Premier League Match Report (Part 2)
The second-half started off with Blackpool looking to break straight from the kick-off. The Tangerines went on to win an early corner, which was bent in by Charlie Adam. Kenwyne Jones cleared the initial cross, but it fell only as far as Adam, who whipped
in another cross. Matthew Phillips received the ball from Adam but was denied by Begovic, who managed to make a crucial interception.
The match once again slowed down after that early opportunity for Blackpool and both sides seemed to be running out of ideas all of a sudden. In the 75th minute, Adam and Ryan Shawcross collided with each other and play was stopped once again,
so that the duo could receive treatment.
In the 77th minute Pennant won a free-kick on the left side of the Blackpool area. The attacker took the kick himself and went on to put a little too much onto the ball, as it sailed over the bar and away for a goal kick.
In the 86th minute of the game, the ball managed to magically find its way to Whelan. However, the Stoke City midfielder saw his brilliant effort go just past the post, keeping the scores locked at nil-nil.
Following that miss from Whelan, the match went into the four minutes of extra time that were added at the end of the game by the referee. Despite the additional time, neither side managed to test their opponents back-line in the dying stages of the game,
as the match ended in a goal less draw.
Surprisingly, no players from either side were booked during the game. However, Blackpool will now be aware of the fact that they have to give it their all in their remaining fixtures, if they were to stand any chance of staying in the top flight at the
end of the season.
