Blackpool’s Ian Holloway: Staying in the Premier League will be better than getting there – EPL news
Blackpool manager, Ian Holloway, has claimed that if the Tangerines manage to avoid relegation from English Premier League this season, it would be a bigger accomplishment than the victory that brought them here in the first place.
The Seasiders ensured their participation in the ongoing 2010/11 season of the Premier League campaign thanks to a win over Cardiff in last-year’s Championship play-off final. It was a fantastic achievement for the glory-hungry club, but manager Ian Holloway
believes that Blackpool’s Premier League survival this season would be a far greater accomplishment than that win at Wembley.
The Tangerines are currently floundering in the drop zone, and unless they can turn things around in the final two games of the season, they are destined to head straight back into the npower Championship next season. Blackpool are in 18th place
at the moment, still needing at least a point to move out of the drop zone.
The Seasiders will host Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, before travelling to Old Trafford to face League leaders Manchester United on the final day of the season. Ian Holloway believes that his side needs four points from their last two matches to ensure survival.
Getting any sort of result from the home ground of the Red Devils will be a big ask, and Holloway knows that the Seasiders will need all three points from their upcoming Premier League encounter against Bolton to stand a chance of avoiding relegation this
season.
The Blackpool boss said, “'We know that it's not in our hands and we've got to do what we can and basically that is to win. We've got one home game left and we've got to win it to give ourselves any sort of chance. For us this is as big as it gets, in my
opinion bigger than Wembley, and four points out of six would be an even bigger achievement than what we did last year. I think we'll need four because the other teams play each other.”
Blackpool face Bolton Wanderers at Bloomfield road on the 14th of May.
