Blacks, Asians ,Whites, ETC.

Question

I was born in the USA and have always thought I was an American, even though my ancesters can be traced to Gemany! Why do blacks insist on be refered to as African Americans? The same with asians ?

Group identity is very important to most individuals, especially to minorities or those otherwise under duress.

In time, these groups will continue to merge and integrate into society. At some point "African American" will sound backwards and uneducated.
