Question:

Blacks on the West Coast....?

I remember hearing about tense race relations between blacks and mexicans in South Cali and other places on the West Coast. I remember they mentioned a bunch of killings between the groups, and one gang(black or mexican?) declaring war on the other race/ethnicity. I also heard there are big fights between blacks and Mexicans in some of the high schools, and that a black person can seriously get killed walking in a Mexican neighborhood, or vice versa.

Is it really true that you could get killed walking in a Mexican neighborhood in South Cali(LA,surrounding areas) and if it is true how did things get so bad?

I've never been on the West Coast, and I don't know anyone from there so I'm curious

  1. yes its true. but its not as severe as people make it out to be. many Black people have walked on streets in Mexican neighborhoods, and many Mexican gangs have shot them. Most of the people that were shot were under 18 years old and they were shot because they were Black.

  2. i've never seen it. but i heard it happens in areas where the population is like 99% hispanic and 1% black. places where hispanics overwhelmingly outnumber blacks. my neighborhood is like 15% black and 85% hispanic and black gangs still control the neighborhood. i think it is really just media hype. this idea of tension started when a crips gang allegedly stole a shipment of cocaine from a mexican gang and they declared war on blacks. this turned out to be false and the media has been crying 'race war' ever since.

  3. In my experience it's rare and unusual. I happen to live in a town where Surenos gangs are dominant. Surenos do not like blacks

  4. we minorities of America do not need to be killing each other and becoming more of a minority!

  5. It's rare, but of course the media will blow everything out of proportion. It is usually the lower educated gang members of both races that take part in this behavior. Working class Blacks and Mexicans do not show this animosity towards one another.

And another thing, that is just an  L.A. thing, this doesn't seem to be much of a problem in San Diego, and San Francisco.
