Blackstone Vegas favourite for 127th Year of Watt Memorial Handicap
Blackstone Vegas is likely to succeed in the 127th Year of Watt Memorial Handicap at Beverley in England on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. The class-4 winner will bag a cash prize of £4,528 in the end.
A total of nine runners have been attracted towards the challenging 2 mile 35 yard race, which is scheduled to start at 16:00 GMT. The weather seems to be perfect, thus the going will be good.
Although Blackstone Vegas does not have an ideal strike rate, yet he has been given a pretty decent starting price of 6 to 1 by the bookies. His form in recent times has been impressive, which will certainly force the bettors to risk money on him.
The six-year-old gelding has got plenty of experience, as he has participated in 42 events until now. He made his first appearance in July 2008 and displayed decent speed back then, finishing fourth overall. He took part in a couple of more events that year,
but was unable to finish in the top three in any of them.
This was a bit disappointing for his team, but they would have hoped for some success in the next season. However, things did not go well for the Derek Shaw’s trainee in 2009 as well and he ended the season without a win.
Despite a couple of lacklustre seasons, the seasoned gelding bounced back next year and finally brought up his maiden win in May 2010. He was priced 5 to 1 for that event and was up against some decent runners. He showed good stamina though and won the race
by one length in the end.
Since winning his first race, the Nayef’s son started delivering some consistent results and grew in confidence. He enjoyed a very good time in the last season, but did not start this year’s campaign on a high. He struggled in a few events before finding
his rhythm.
Blackstone Vegas has won two out of his previous three races this year, which shows the kind of form he is in at the moment. He will like the conditions at Beverley and it will be difficult for his opponents to stop him from winning. His partner in the race
will be Tom Eaves.
