Blair Evans earns Women’s 400m freestyle gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Blair Evans of Perth City earned gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on day three of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Friday, September 14.
The 21-year-old Evans smothered hopes of her challengers in the mediocre distance freestyle event, as she showed no mercy to them and rushed her way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her persistent efforts, Evans remained in a considerable lead over her opponents and tapped the wall for gold medal by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 05.49 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by Amelia Gould of SOPAC, NSW, who stayed three body lengths slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 08.30 seconds for silver medal.
Gould enjoyed an advantage of 0.82 seconds over Laura Crockart of Ryde-Carlile, who transpired on the finishing blockade as third best finisher by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 09.12 seconds.
Crockart was traced by Amy Levings of Unattached, QLD, who stayed 0.62 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 09.74 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the event was secured by Dart Clydsdale of Nudgee Brothers, who remained almost three seconds apart and hit the finishing wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 12.45 seconds.
The 19-year-old Clydsdale was traced by Belinda Parslow of Nunawading, who remained more than a body length behind and surfaced on the finishing blockade as sixth fastest swimmer by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 13.17 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was secured by Kareena Lee of Mountain Creek, who stayed almost three body lengths behind and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 16.54 seconds.
Lee was traced by Skye Cater of Cranbrook, who failed to overpower any of her opponents in the event and posted a time of 4 minutes and 17.97 seconds.
Evans received huge round of applause from the crowd for her commendable efforts and told that she would struggle hard to continue the same in future events.
