Blair O’Neal of the Big Break fame all set to sizzle the LPGA field in Avnet Classic
Celebrity star of Golf Channel’s Big Break, Blair O’Neal, has now stepped on the golf course after a sizzling career in modeling. One of the most glamorous figures of showbiz, O’Neal has always been a passionate golfer from the beginning and holds the sport
closest to her heart.
The celebrated star has sponsor’s exemption to participate in the LPGA’s Avnet Classic at the Robert Trent Jones Trail. The tournament is scheduled this week at the scenic Crossing’s Course and is only O’Neal’s second professional LPGA tournament.
Like many of the seasoned LPGA players, who have now grown into formidable challenges, O’Neal also spent several years to improve her skills on the course. After graduating from Arizona State University, her life took a turn when she decided to choose modeling
as a career. "When I graduated from college, I started doing modeling and a little bit of acting. I have kind of done both careers", said a smiling O’Neal.
She was nominated as the “The 50 hottest athletes of all times” by the Sports Illustrated after her swimsuit promo for the magazine. But of all the fame and fortune O’Neal has accumulated in the course of time, her passion for the sport has not dwindled
a bit. She was among the finalists at last year’s LPGA qualifying school and is hoping to renew her card for the next year. A victory at Avnet Classic will definitely go a long way in improving her career profile.
"I can be on the golf course and still do modeling things on the side and that sort of thing, but I love to compete and I love to play golf, and that is the number one goal. I have just gone about it in a different way than the other players," O'Neal said.
Seasoned LPGA players will be part of the field at the Avnet Classic this week including Grace Park, Song-Hee Kim, last month’s Kraft Nabisco Champion Stacey Lewis, Karen Stupples and last year’s leader of LPGA Tour’s Money List Na Yeon Choi. SE Ri Pak is
the defending champion who won the 2010 episode of the Avnet Classic on the Playoff against Brittany Lincicome and Suzann Petterson.
The $1,300,000 event features 144 top ranking players from the LPGA and nine of the top ten in the Rolex Rankings. World number one, Yani Tseng will also be participating in the event along with HSBC Women’s Champions and RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup champion
Karrie Webb will pose a serious threat to the contenders.
The Crossing’s Course of the Robert Trent Junior is rated as the most serene of courses in Mobile. It is the second time the LPGA Tour has visited the course after its hefty renovation two years ago.
