  1. Blairwitch was the first of its kind, and actually is the inspiration for shows like survivor. They actually sent the kids into the woods and followed them around scaring them as much as they could to create realistic emotions, and real fear.

Of course, the blairwitch project was completely fictional, as you probably know, but was promoted as a true story.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre was also promoted originally as a true story, even though it was completely fictitious.

The remake features what looks like live police footage at the beginning and end of the movie to sell the idea to those who still believe all the urban legends and tales going around that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a true story.

There are many underground films that never made the big screen, but still break free of that crappy hollywood stuff. Lots of independant films end up on youtube, many of which make the claims that they are true occurances, although almost all are staged shows.

Look up "Rubber Johnny" by Chris Cunningham, a film about a very flexible kid kept in a basement. Its filmed as if it was a home video.

  2. Movies , especially horror, suspense and any form of paranormal movie is just for your entertainment. It is just taking advantage of everyone's curiosity by never worrying about any kind of actual proof. It wants to keep you curious and wondering.

If you want to learn something, watch a documentary.

Movies are to make money. They are not trying to prove anything right or wrong.

Maybe 1% of movies have something to say and the rest are to get your money due to your need for entertainment.

Yes most will be garbage and they are not confined to just the paranormal.

Paranormal is all about your having a personal experience, not watching a movie or listening to someone else tell about theirs. You cannot believe something like this unless it is first hand and not hearsay.

  3. the poughkeepsie tapes. Its fake, but similar.

  4. The Haunting (original version) and The Changeling are two films that come to mind. Also The Last Broadcast, which was the film that the makers of that terrible piece of tripe "The Blair Witch Project" plagiarized.
