Blake Beavan manages eight scoreless innings as Seattle Mariners defeat Texas Rangers 4-0
The Seattle Mariners had a lot to be happy about on Friday, September 16 when they managed to beat Texas Rangers 4-0 at Safeco Field in Seattle.
The victory presented something more as Blake Beavan became a star outpitching C. J. Wilson.
Beavan, who is 22-years-old, walked into his 13th game of the season. Manager Eric Wedge had placed a lot of faith in his rising star as the hurler went up against the Texas Rangers’ top pitcher in the rotation. What was even more amazing was
the fact he took down the noisiest offensive line-up in the American League West with ease.
He pitched eight scoreless innings, losing only four hits. With no walks or errors from the field, the player moved on to 5-5 in the season, reducing his earned runs average to just 3.92.
On the Texas end, C. J. Wilson slumped to just 6.1 innings of pitching. He managed to give away four runs off two walks and six hits. The star moved on to a 16-7 standing in the season, also increasing his earned runs average to 2.97. He did however manage
to pick up eight strike-outs.
There were only three Rangers’ hitters in the line-up that managed a hit in the game. The growling offensive line-up produced just four hits in the game. Two came off Endy Chavez and the others were brought in by Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus.
Mariners kicked off their scoring bid in the first inning. Their three runs came from the bottom of the third. The marathon began with Casper Wells getting to first base off a walk. Brendan Ryan then moved onto first base with a single to the left as Dustin
Ackley then came in to hit. He managed to get to first base after Kinsler made a throwing error. Wells took the opportunity to score and that brought the first run home.
Ryan scored the second of the game when Wilson delivered a wild pitch to Miguel Olivo. The Seattle hitter moved to first base when he managed an infield hit.
Ackley was on third and he moved to the dugout when he reached home on an infield single by Mike Carp. The Seattle club went 3-0 and Wilson was struggling as he hit pitch Wily Mo Pena in the following play.
After the third inning, things looked quiet till the seventh inning. It looked like the Rangers had a chance to get back in the game but the situation changed greatly when Casper Wells ended the Texas’ hopes with a 385-feet homer to the left.
The Rangers remained quiet in the game and the club lost 0-4 to the Mariners. The series opener will stimulate the fans who are hoping their team can end the season on a high note. A victory over the Texans would help ease a lot of nerves.
