Blake Griffin, Chris Paul lead Los Angeles Clippers to easy win over Memphis Grizzlies – NBA Recap
The Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday halted a losing streak with an important win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Playing in front of a buoyant home crowd at the Staples Center, the Clippers dominated for large parts of the game before rounding off the win at
101 – 85.
Chris Paul and Blake Griffin were instrumental in helping the Clippers to the win. Griffin had a terrific night out, securing his double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. He also dished out 5 assists. Chris Paul pulled all the strings for the Clippers,
his 13 assists and 19 points standing out.
Randy Foye scored 18 and new recruit Nick Young added 16 coming off the bench.
"Today was a step in the right direction in getting the fun back. You have to smile out there a little bit because everyone is on edge. Today we made the effort and had fun and didn't worry about negative things." Young said.
On the other hand, Memphis never got their act together in the game. Power forward Zach Randolph scored a team high 14 and had 8 rebounds while O.J. Mayo had 13 off the bench. Marc Gasol and Rudy g*y, whom the Grizzlies have relied this NBA season, were
disappointing tonight.
Clippers were quicker off the mark, going up 15 – 7 near the halfway mark in the first quarter. Memphis came back, making it 21 – 17 but Los Angeles ended the period on a 12 – 0 sprint, taking the score to 33 – 17.
The second quarter was therefore hard work for the Grizzlies, who kept fighting to close down the gap. With just over 3 minutes remaining, they narrowed it down to 48 – 40, but the Clippers ended strongly to maintain a double digit advantage at halftime,
56 – 42.
If the Grizzlies had any hopes of coming back into the game, Los Angeles wiped them out after the break. The 3rd frame belonged to the home side once more, who pounded Memphis for 25 points. With the away team struggling to keep up, by the end
of the segment the lead had ballooned to 20 points, 81 – 61.
The final was just a formality after that. The Clippers were never going to give away such a massive lead on home court, and the best Grizzlies could hope for was reducing the margin of defeat. It ended 101 – 85 to Los Angeles.
