Blake Griffin not intimidated by the Los Angeles Lakers roster, Says they are not the title favourites just yet ...
The Los Angeles Clippers had one of their best years in franchise history this past season, one that saw them break out of the shadow of the Lakers after a long time and create an interest among the Los Angeles fans about the 'other'
club in the city.
However, the Lakers spoiled the Clippers party soon enough by adding Dwight Howard and Steve Nash to the roster in the offseason, making them one of the most talked about teams in recent history and clear favourites to win the
NBA title next season.
Blake Griffin, the high flying superstar of the Clippers who is responsible for introducing the team and franchise to many people around the world, however seems to think otherwise.
“On paper it looks great. People said the same thing when we got C.P., Chris Paul. But they still got to go out there and play,” said Griffin.
Griffin feels that the Lakers additions in the offseason, although impressive, do not make them clear favourites in the Western Conference as there are many other teams who are as good as the Lakers in the West.
Plus, the Lakers have to come together and play as a unit, something that is yet to be proven with the new roster.
“I think there's a lot of tough teams in the Western Conference. There's one right here (in Oklahoma City) that the Lakers have to get. The Spurs have been a good team for the past 500 years. And I think we're preparing for that.
So that's kind of what you expect people to do. You expect them to hand out the trophy in the middle of the summer,” added Griffin.
The Clippers reached the Western Conference Semi Finals in the playoffs and the addition of Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups seems to have done the trick. The Clippers continued their efforts to improve the team this off season
when they acquired Lamar Odom, Grant Hill and Jamal Crawford during the summer, adding strength to the bench and depth to their roster.
With teams such as the Clippers as well as the Minnesota Timberwolves making some good improvements during the summer in terms of roster, the Western Conference is going to be more competitive and deep than it has been in a long
time.
