Blake Griffin leads as Los Angeles Clippers beat Milwaukee Bucks 92 – 86: NBA Recap
The Los Angeles Clippers defeated Milwaukee Bucks 92 – 86 at the Staples Center in an entertaining fixture on Sunday. The game was close for the most part, but the Clippers showed their superiority in the second half to walk away with a win.
Sensational young star Blake Griffin led all scorers on the night with 22 points and also grabbed 14 rebounds to round off a double-double display. Caron Butler was on song for the Clippers as well, racking in 20 points and 6 boards while veteran point guard Chauncey Billups, who recently returned from an injury, piled on 19 points.
Third year point guard Brandon Jennings was a driving force for the Bucks. Jennings top scored for his team with 21 points, also grabbing 6 boards and handing out 7 assists. Veteran guard Stephen Jackson was second among Milwaukee scorers with 18 points, an honour he shared with centre Drew Gooden, who had a double-double at 18 points and 13 rebounds.
The Clippers raced out of the blocks in front of an expectant home crowd with an 8 – 1 run. The game though slowed down after that and neither team could really get going in the first quarter. It finished 18 – 15 to Los Angeles.
The second belonged to the Clippers who started off 6 – 2, taking the lead for the first time. It was a lead that would change hands a few times in the period but overall the Bucks outscored Los Angeles 25-to-20, ensuring their 40 – 38 lead at the interval.
Los Angeles came out all guns blazing in the second half and exploded in the third quarter for 34 points. The Bucks had a good offensive display of their own in the period with 25 points, but that simply wasn’t enough to keep pace with the dazzling display by the home side.
Their attacking display saw the Clippers head into the penultimate quarter holding the lead at 72 – 65. It was an advantage they successfully defended as Milwaukee failed to force the issue and put consistent pressure on them. The game thus finished off with the Clippers ahead at 92 – 86, Chris Paul making the final free throw.
