Blake Griffin on the new ‘flopping’ ruling: It’s a good way for the NBA to get more money
So David Stern and his group of brilliant administrators have finally come up with a plan to limit flopping, something which became the talk of the town during last season’s playoffs.
According to the proposal, reviews will be used to judge whether a player was faking or not, and if found guilty, he will receive a warning (for first timers) to a fine upto $ 30k if found guilty a fifth time. From there on, suspensions
will follow.
While it has been welcomed, there have been some reservation regarding the new ruling and according to some reports the National Basketball Players Association has even filed a complaint about some of the clauses.
Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks owner also questioned the effectiveness of the system recently, and Blake Griffin, the dunking sensation from the Los Angeles Clippers also seems to think that the system will not be able to completely
curb the menace. He rather called it a way for NBA to earn more money;
“It’s not going to win or lose games for anybody. It’s a good way for the NBA to get more money,” Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin said.
“I guess it’s good in a sense that it stops any of it from happening,” Griffin said after the Clippers’ practice at the Galen Center on Wednesday. “But now you’re telling me if it’s Game 7 of the NBA Finals and a guy has a chance
to make a play he’s going to be like, ‘Well, do I want this $10,000 or do I want a championship?’ “
Griffin certainly has a point, but for argument sake, it can be said that the same player will not think of it if a suspension is on the line in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. There are some variables which just cannot be addressed,
and we have to live with that. Nothing in this world is perfect and same is the case with the new flopping ruling.
At least, it has started a trend which will put some sort of fear in the minds of habitual offenders. Calling it a new way for NBA to earn money is plain disrespectful.
