Blake Haggerty tames Aaron Harvey to grab Boy’s Singles U17 title at 2012 Tasmanian Championships
Australia’s upcoming shuttler Blake Haggerty delivered a phenomenal performance and grabbed Boy’s Singes U17 title after taming his compatriot Aaron Harvey in the final encounter at 2012 Tasmanian Championships in Australia, on Sunday, August 12.
The in-form Blake, who was second seeded player in the main draw of the tournament, put up thrashing show of top quality badminton and overpowered his higher ranked rival Aaron who was top seed in the Boy’s Singles U17 draw.
The lower ranked Blake was at his prime form in the final battle as he did not show any mercy to his rival at any stage in the entire contest and toppled him in straight sets by a convincing margin.
The top seeded Aaron, on the other hand, played to his maximum speed but failed to remain positive on crucial moments and eventually lost the match without snatching any game from his in-form opponent.
The opening set was thrilling as both shuttlers put up wonderful show by playing at their maximum speed.
The pace of rallies was quite high and both players employed their lucrative skills to push each other on back foot but no one could get a reasonable lead until the break.
After the one-minute interval, they continued playing at the similar speed and reached at the ending points when Blake showed his brilliance and took the set with a close 21-19 score on the board.
In the second game, Aaron failed to continue his positive run as he became a little slow and started to take the bird late which enabled his rival to take a reasonable lead at the early stage.
The second seeded Blake, in the meanwhile, played with tremendous control and remained in commanding position until the one-minute interval.
After the one-minute break, the aggressive Blake continued his roller-coaster run on court without showing any sign of confusion and he remained successful in winding up the second game with a huge margin of 21-14.
The underdog Blake easily wrapped up victory in the title match by finishing it off with an inspiring 21-19 and 21-14 score on the board.
