Blake Worsley clinches Men’s 200m freestyle title: Day one - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Blake Worsley of IS clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on primary day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Tuesday, March 27.
Worsley experienced strong competition from Chad Bobrosky of CASC throughout the four-lap freestyle event but with his fascinating effort, he managed to edge him out over the finishing end for gold medal.
With his furious efforts in the final lap of the race, he confirmed his place in the Canadian team to 2012 London Olympic Games as he clocked a time of 1 minute and 49.06 seconds.
In contrast, Bobrosky stayed 0.27 seconds slower from overwhelming the gold medallist and settled on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 49.33 seconds.
His stupendous effort remained 0.26 seconds ahead of ESWIM’s Hassaan Abdel-Khalik, who was just two strokes behind Bobrosky and settled on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by completing his race in a time of 1 minute and 49.59 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Tobias Oriwol of TSC, who occupied fourth best spot of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 49.62 seconds.
Next was the Women’s 50m butterfly Para S1-7 event, where Brianna Nelson S7SB7SM7 of IS dictated terms to her rivals and clocked a time of 40.51 seconds for gold medal. Her effort was just 0.03 seconds ahead of Sarah Mehain S7SB7SM7 of VKSC, who acquired silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 40.54 seconds.
S McDougall S7SB6SM7 was the third finest swimmer of the event as she stayed nearly fifteen seconds slower and submitted an effort of 55.42 seconds. The bronze medallist was chased by S Couture S7SB7SM7 of SWA, who stayed almost seven second behind her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.47 seconds.
Worsley and Nelson were delighted with their title claiming efforts and expressed that they will try to achieve the same at upcoming battle royal.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all listed events while the position holders received a huge round of applause from the audience at prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
